Installation
Prerequisites
- Stable network connection between your computer and the miner
- Downloaded VNish firmware file for your exact model
- Miner accessible via web interface or SSH
Installation Steps
- Navigate to your miner's web interface
- Go to System → Firmware Upgrade
- Select the VNish
.tar.gzfile - Click Upgrade and wait 5-8 minutes
- The miner will reboot with the VNish interface
- Enter your VNish license key in Settings → License
VNish preserves your pool configuration during the upgrade. After installation, verify your pool settings are correct before enabling autotuning.
Autotuning Configuration
After installation, configure autotuning for optimal results:
- Navigate to Tuner in the VNish web interface
- Set your target power consumption (watts)
- Select tuning profile: Conservative, Balanced, or Aggressive
- Click Start Autotuning — the process takes 30-60 minutes
- Monitor chip temperatures and hashrate during tuning
Reverting to Stock Firmware
To revert to Bitmain stock firmware:
- Download the stock firmware for your model from Bitmain's portal
- In VNish web UI, go to System → Firmware Upgrade
- Upload the stock firmware
.tar.gz - Click Upgrade — the miner will revert to stock
Alternatively, use the SD card recovery method described in the Stock Firmware page.
Performance Comparison
Typical results with VNish autotuning vs. stock firmware:
| Model | Stock Hashrate | VNish Tuned | Stock Power | VNish Power | Efficiency Gain |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| S21 | 200 TH/s | 195-215 TH/s | 3500W | 3000-3700W | 5-15% |
| S19 XP | 140 TH/s | 135-155 TH/s | 3010W | 2600-3200W | 5-12% |
| S19j Pro | 104 TH/s | 100-115 TH/s | 3068W | 2500-3200W | 5-15% |
| S19 Pro | 110 TH/s | 105-120 TH/s | 3250W | 2800-3400W | 5-12% |
Results vary based on silicon quality, ambient temperature, and power supply capabilities. Undervolting results are better with newer chip revisions.
Known Issues
| Version | Issue | Workaround |
|---|---|---|
| 2024.11.1 | Autotuner restart loop on some S19 XP boards | Disable aggressive profile, use balanced |
| 2024.08.2 | S17 fan reporting mismatch | Cosmetic only, actual cooling unaffected |
